Zodiac (4) -- I vaguely remember the real story (serial killer scaring Californians in the 1970s with sporadic violence and codes sent to newspapers) while it was going on, but the producers and director did a great job making me feel like I was back in the 1970s all over again.

300 (3) -- If this movie is the future of filmmaking, American movie fans could be in trouble -- unless eye candy is all they're looking for. Based on the true story of Spartan King Leonidas and his against-all-odds battle with the Persian juggernaut, this movie WAS visually stunning. The buildings were real, but every single "view" shot was digitally created. Other than the King (Gerard Butler from Timeline) and the omnipresent graphic violence, the action and story outline in this movie are on par with the daily soaps. This movie gets three stars from me because of the visuals and the action -- and because it was the first of its kind that I've seen. However, any future films that resemble this one will get lower ratings.
